Had a lot of respect for Stallone when he was interviewed stating that he wrote Rocky and when he asked Hollywood to take it he said the only stipulation was that he played the lead role, many declined but eventually he struck lucky

For entertainment purposes 2.
But Rocky has so much character.
For example budget was so low they couldn't afford to pay extras for Rock's 1st date with Adrian so had date in ice rink after it had closed so it would be cheaper.
Prop dept made a mess of the picture of Rocky with his trunks being red with whit trim (instead of other way around) & as they had already shot the footage they just wrote in scene of Rocky commenting on it in arena night before fight.
Prop depth also made Rocky's dressing gown too big, so they wrote that into it as well.
Also, if you look (not too closely) you can see camera crew in shots of fight against Apollo Creed.
BTW, interesting fact.No Apollo Creed fight ever appears in any Rocky montage as Weathers never agreed to having his footage released for subsequent Rockys.

A word for the greatest trainer ever Burgess Meredith who played Mickey Goldmill Rockys battered faced old timer trainer, he gave a punch to the film that made it that bit more brilliant.
My favourite Mickey quote was.
' You're gonna eat lightning and you're gonna crap thunder '. Classic.

One as you didn't know what to expect, nothing quite like it at the time or after except the follow on's which were entertaining. Remember seeing one when it just came out and loads of kids bouncing out the cinema on a high looking for any excuse for a scrap.

The original Rocky carried its legitimate intent to be an every day feel good story behind a deep coated hard underworld
By the time 4 came along i`m pretty sure those involved had given up any remaining hopes of taking itself seriously and just chose to make a political message about the impending cold war
The montage of Stallone running his bollocks off on a beach while Drago is being pumped full of roid`s on all sorts of machines, SUPOIB !!
